College
admission counselling is a responsible post and for obvious reason person
holding this chair must have different aptitudes in representing
college/university. As a whole counselling professionals have to render
multiple responsibilities, and they should have ability to work in different
type of working atmosphere as well as sincerity and aggressiveness to serve
students as well as guardians by answering their queries. Proper admission
recruitment, right counseling, outreaching, and review of applications are the
most significant aspects of job responsibility of a college admission
counsellor.
Other
than these basic ones an admission counsellor should have ability to handle
some more intricate functionality. These are:
1. Representing
the university/institution off and on campus, and he /she deals with students,
parents, secondary school counsellors, and other individuals and organizations
engaged /involved in selection process.
2. Planning
and implementing recruitment activities for specific high schools and
institutions travel to different states and cities for completion of admission
and selection related formalities.
3. The
admission counsellor needs to review and score application related essays and
other testimonials by the candidates so that right admission decision can be
taken.
4. A college admission
counsellor needs to coordinate
and contribute to different student visit programs so that the
university/institution can recruit best talents. The success of these programs
needs support from different educational department so coordination between
different levels of authority is also required.
Usually a bachelor’s degree and 2-5
years or more work experience is required for being eligible for the post of an
admission counsellor in college. However, good
interpersonal skill, analytical temperament, and friendly attitude are the
allied qualities, which make the role of a college counsellor more efficient
and productive.
